Luke Laughlin Family Timeline

Luke Laughlin was born in June 1814 in Aghagower, County Mayo, Ireland 1

Luke's future wife, Mary TAGUE 2 or MCTIGUE 1,3  was born in 1825 3 1826 1 or January 1828 2 in Ireland

Luke learned the skill of stone masonry in his youth and was a stone mason until 1877 1

He Immigrated to America in 1850 (36 years old) 1

Luke LAUGHLIN and Mary MCTIGUE or TAGUE married in 1850 (he was 36 years old and she was about 25)  7

3 October 1853 son Charles Patrick  born in Bangor, Penobscot Co., ME (39 years old) 2

1855 son Patrick born in ME (40 years old) 2

23 April 18551 or18578 daughter Catherine Anna born in Bangor, Penobscot Co., ME (41 years old) 1, 8

23 June 1858 daughter Magdalene (Ellen) born in Atchison, Atchison Co., KS (43 years old) 2

20 June 1860 census lists Luke (38), his wife, Mary (30), son, Patrick (8), daughters, Mary Ann (4), Catherine (3), and Ellen (2). Luke is listed as a laborer. They lived in the 1st Ward of Atchison City, Atchison County, Kansas (46 years old) 6



26 July 1870 census lists Luke (56), his wife, Mary (45), son, Patrick (18), daughters, Catherine (13) and Ellen (11). Luke is listed as a Farmer from Ireland. His real estate is listed at $800 and his personal estate at $300. They live in the Town of Mount Pleasant, Atchison Co., Kansas (56 years old). 5



7 July 18741 or 10 July 18758 daughter Catherine LAUGHLIN marries Patrick DIGNAN at St. Patrick's Church, Atchison, Atchison Co., KS8 (60 years old)

1877 decided to quit stone masonry and become a farmer. He moved to Nemaha County, Kansas (63 years old) 1

27 January 1880 daugher, Ellen LAUGHLIN marries James ROSS (66 years old) 2

12 September 1880 son, Charles marries Penelope MATHEWS (67 years old) 2

27 Jaunary 1899, daughter Ellen and her husband, James ROSS have a son, William ROSS (84 years old) 2

30 January 1899, daughter Ellen ROSS dies from complications related to childbirth. She was 40 years old. (84 years old) 2

31 January 1899, grandson William ROSS dies. He was only 4 days old. (84 years old) 2

19 June 1900 census lists Luke, born June 1814, his wife, Mary, born January 1825. They have been married 50  years. Mary is the mother of 6 children, 2 of whom are living. They both came to the US in 1850 and Luke is naturalized. 7



27 May 1906 Luke's wife, Mary dies in Seneca, Nemaha Co., KS at the age of about 79 years (92 years old) 1,2,3

Luke and Mary LAUGHLIN are both buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Saint Benedict, Nemaha County, Kansas. 3,4

  1. You might find this interesting. Luke posted an ad for his brothers in the Boston Pilot. This is the link that connects Luke to three of his brothers and provides the town they are from.

  2. Thank you so much for that link! I've never heard of that resource before. It helped me track Luke Laughlin down to the his location in Ireland before immigrating! Are you related to this Laughlin line in any way?
